Off To My Career Voyage
My
Story
As I reflect on my college career, I can say “that was quick!” Crazy to know that I graduated high school in Spring of 2018 and abruptly began my college career in Summer of 2018. I have always been an enthusiastic, energetic, and focused individual always looking for a challenge and graduating with a dual degree in International Business and Finance in three years and a half is a challenge that I will always be proud of.
Not only have I been very devoted throughout my college career, but I have always wanted to do more and exceed my own expectations. I have taken 6 week semester classes every summer throughout my college career, allowing me to challenge myself in learning material that is composed for a 16 week semester long class. I have participated in discussions, debates, and team projects that have allowed me to accept different points of views and enrich my knowledge, which I believe is fundamental to contribute and improve society. Being part of the Global Medallion Program at FIU allowed me to participate in an extensive series of courses and activities designed to amplify global awareness, global perspective, and stance of global engagement. I also joined the Kappas Sigma fraternity at FIU in Fall of 2018 and was elected Grand Treasurer in Spring of 2019. I had to manage the finance of over $8,000 per semester, and became a Founding Father on February 6, 2021. The Kappa Sigma Xi-Kappa chapter served more than 1,700 hours of service to both local and national communities and I have exemplified leadership, fellowship, scholarship, and service. I also decided to join the Financial Planning Association of Miami in Fall of 2020, in which I was able to regularly meet and engage in spirited discussions and practice management conversations with matter experts in the personal financial planning services.
Being part of a university that is ranked number 2 for International Business for three Consecutive Years has allowed me to interact with professors and students from different nationalities with a variety of perspectives. Throughout my courses, I have learned that having an international perspective to business gives you a competitive edge in today’s workforce. I have had the opportunity to evaluate different companies and understand what management techniques they have used to gain long-term success, allowing me to use this knowledge to help future companies grow and promote economic prosperity throughout time.
Born in the United States, with a Venezuelan and European family, and having had the opportunity to travel internationally has humbly allowed me to interact with diverse people, languages, religions, and cultures. I would love to find my dream job, where I can apply my business insights and combine my skills, activities, and passions to my day-to day-activities. The experiences that I have gained through my classes, internships, and different conferences have allowed me to analyze situations and problem solve at certain levels of risk. I look forward to working in a transparent culture that values team building and career progression with a salary that I can improve year by year based on my contribution to the company. I have had the opportunity to understand how companies are structured and should be managed for long-term success, which I believe will allow me to put that experience to good use. I have always been drawn towards becoming a liaison between innovation, humanity, and financial capital: the correlation of the three needed to scale and benefit society.
During this incredible part of my life, I have always tried to have a healthy equilibrium between my academics and my personal life. My physical and emotional well-being has played a major role in my academic, professional, and personal success. This has allowed me to maintain an active and informed wellness plan in exercising, eating healthy, and spending time with friends and family. Managing the multiple demands of my career, school, and personal life can be challenging, but I have learned to manage time which is a key component to academic and professional success. Planning my schedule, prioritizing my work, and setting goals and deadlines for projects has allowed me to be focused and aware of all the things that need to be done, minimizing stress.
Although the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic made my college experience feel like a pause, I quickly adapted to the virtual learning and was facilitated by my professors. I enjoyed being able to go back and watch Zoom lectures multiple times, in order to clarify any doubt I may have and be able to understand the concepts better. It was quite challenging at first to only be able to focus on my classes as social interactions were minimised, but I began to reflect on my life and do things that I would have not done before COVID, such as begin trading on the stock market and arrange one-on-one time with my Finance professors who helped me analyze certain trajectories and use the class teachings into real world practice. All things considered, I can firmly state I am blessed to be healthy and have amazing friends and family that have supported me along my professional development.
Benjamin Franklin said, “lost time is never found again.” All the time invested in my education and self-awareness are fundamental to live in a dynamic society. Making a decisive effort to understand what is happening in the world and the impact it has on our lives is essential to become globally conscious.
