Global Learning Experiences

Secure Miami 2021 Conference

Secure Miami 2021 allowed me to understand how important cybersecurity is in today’s global world as ransomware attacks are on the rise and are estimated to cost global organizations $20 billion! I was able to hear from some of the industry’s leading experts and participate in informative breakout sessions on a range of topics critical to cybersecurity today. Featured Keynote speakers included American former FBI counter-terrorism and counterintelligence operative and bestselling author Eric O'Neill and Corey White who is a proven security industry veteran with more than twenty-five years of success managing security practices and consulting teams. This experience was very beneficial for my career development as I would soon like to create a strategic and tactical cyber-resilient organization and believe that learning about the dangers of cyber crime is very important as new technology is being implemented each day.

Social Justice Summit

The Social Justice Summit was a one-day conference open to students, faculty and staff at Florida International Univeristy to gain knowledgeable insights from social justice change-makers on the path forward to a collective journey. This unique opportunity allowed me to gain knowledgeable insights from incredible social justice change-makers who are spreading awareness about the issues that affect the lives of marginalized persons and our communities. It was quite impactful to hear the life story of keynote speaker Kenisha E. Anthony, who is a first-generation college graduate; FIU alumna; award-winning foster care advocate; and author of Labeled. She explained how she was able to grow and become the professional woman she is today after overcoming the injustice presented in the foster care system, which opened my eyes to know that that all humans are inherently equal and all resources should be distributed equitably. Additionally, I enjoyed listening to the different panels that spoke throughout the day about their personal experiences regarding social justice and their self improvement.

The multiple events I attended provided me with insights from experts in different fields and specific events that transpired and had a global impact in society. I was able to value different perspectives and understand how events around the world are interconnected. As a global learner, I believe it is fundamental to foster globally minded attitude, skills, and knowledge to operate and engage in today's business world. As an international business and finance graduate, I realize the demand for individuals to operate under a global business environment with an ethical and cultural understanding of the issues impacting daily business operations. Having a global perspective will allow me to build relationships leveraging my experiences abroad and incorporate the knowledge I have gained to make the world a better place for tomorrow.
